Use the shared code editor
Set a coding problem, watch the candidate type live, compare with the model answer only you can see, and record how the coding went.
For technical roles you can open a shared code editor during the call. You and the candidate see every change as it is typed.
Set a problem
- During the call, click Code in the bottom bar.
- Choose a problem from the list, or No problem (blank editor).
- The problem opens for the candidate by itself.
- Open Model answer (only you can see this) to compare as they work.
Who types
Only one person types at a time. Click Take the editor to type yourself, and hand it back when you are done. Either of you can choose the language from the list.
Running code
When code running is set up on the site, a Run button appears under the editor. Leave the input box empty to use the problem's examples. If you do not see Run, read the code together instead.
Signs to watch
If the candidate pastes text into the editor or leaves the interview window while coding, you see it during the call and again on the report. The candidate is told this on screen. Nothing is blocked, so use your judgement.
On the report
When the editor was used, the report has a Coding section:
- Choose Solved it, Partly solved, Did not solve it or Not attempted.
- Score correctness, approach and efficiency, and code clarity from 1 to 5.
- Add an optional note on the code. The candidate sees it.
- Weigh the coding in your Overall, out of 10 score.
The report page also shows the candidate's code next to the model answer.
The code editor is on the website only. Use a computer for technical interviews.
